Happy New Year

I am not sure if you can still say Happy New Year at the beginning of February but since we won't be able to meet in person I will send you new year greetings anyway.

2021 has begun at a fair pace.  We celebrated Christmas at home and then headed down to the Gold Coast to spend some time with friends but also check out Universities for Joshua.  It was a 24hr journey by road each way so lots of time to bond in the car.  We did some fun things together such a boogie boarding (I got one for Christmas) and the kids and Simon did a quick intro to surfing from friends of ours.   All in all it was a good time just to be away from work life for a few days and enjoy time together.

We are now all back in our usual routine of work whatever "usual" is.  Zara started year 11 and is in the thick of school work often finishing homework at 7pm at night.  She does have a couple of fun classes - photography and a diving course.  Both Joshua and Zara enjoy photography and will often be out and about with friends doing shots together.

Joshua will be heading down to Brisbane to start University in August where he will study engineering.  We are enjoying the time we still have with him at home while we can. He is currently working on putting together an online business.  He is editing photos for people through a website and delivers pizza at night.  We will see what comes of his entrepreneurial spirit.

Simon just came back from 10 days in Arnhem Land doing some flight training with some of our MAF pilots.  He enjoyed being back in a programme and the fellowship that came with it.   He spent his birthday up there this week so was spoiled by going out with some of the guys to a restaurant.  Sounds like they had a lot of fun together in amongst the work.

I am back in the thick of it all again in the HR department.  Covid-19 has brought a lot of complexity to our work in MAF.  In some cases we are having to think right outside the box in order to make things work so wisdom is needed for sure.

I started a wisdom challenge at the beginning of January with an organisation in the States.  It has been fun to walk through the book of Proverbs and see the book come alive and provide wisdom and insight into daily life.  I have also started a 12 month online entrepreneurial training course for fun.  We will see what God does with this training and how it may benefit Joshua as he has interests in this area.

As some of you know we have not been able to get back to Scotland or Switzerland for home assignment due to the travel restrictions that are in place for Covid-19.   We are hoping we will see a change in the right direction this year but time will tell.  However, we are open to doing zoom chats with churches, home groups etc to share about our work with MAF.  If you would like to connect with us then please send us a message.
