A day of rejoicing and an overdue update

The day has come and we have our new computer. It was so exciting to have it arrive on Saturday. You don't realise how much you appreciate being in regular contact with people until you don't have the option anymore. I wish I could take a picture of it and post it on the blog but Simon, I think, took the camera on his flight today. He is doing an overnight in Sudan. He was flying to a new airstrip quite far into Sudan for an organisation called Christian Blind Mission (CBM). This organisation is planning to do regular medical safaris there. He then made his way back to Juba (MAF Base) to stay the night before heading off to another part of Sudan for a medical evacuation. He plans to arrive back in Uganda sometime tomorrow. An interesting trip for him but a very hot one. I was able to talk to him briefly on the Satelite phone tonight and he said it is unbelievably hot. Thankfully the place where he is staying has AC until the power goes out :)

I am doing well now. I have been battling a sinus infection for over two weeks but after a visit to the doctor and some new antibiotics I am well on the mend again. Although today I woke up with a sore throat but I am hoping it is just all the dust in the air that is causing that :) Phew it is really dry at the moment. Although I am not complaining as it makes the drive to school easier. Once the rains come the driving becomes more challenging as you will have spotted from an earlier post.

Joshua and Zara are recovering from stomach bugs. After giving them a wee dose of worm medicine they seem to be back to normal. I will spare you the details :)

Jacqueline and I are still busy with the guesthouse and enjoying all the encouraging comments from the guests who are staying. This makes all the hard work worth it. I am also involved with a bit of training at the moment. Three of us MAF wives have put a course together on food hygiene for our Guesthouse staff but later it might be shared with other staff members. Thanks to one of the other MAF wives I don't actually have to teach it which frees me up a little bit. Another MAF wife and I are doing a cultural awareness course for the whole MAF Uganda team in April. It is a fun course and I'm sure there will be a lot of laughing as we see the funny side of each others cultures. Hopefully everyone, by the end of the course, will be a lot more forgiving whenever we make a cultural faux pas. I am excited to help with this course as my main focus of my major at Moody was cultural studies and so it will be interesting to look at different cultures in detail again.

We have another guest staying with us next week as the Guesthouse is full. Tony Horsfall works for MAF part time as their Pastoral Care person. He visits the MAF programmes once or twice a year and catches up with families and is available to anyone who has any Pastoral issues they would like to discuss with him. It will be great to catch up with him again as Simon and I knew him from our MAF orientation course before we even came to Uganda.

Well that is a quick overview at to what's been happening and what is up and coming. Will be sure to post some up to date photos when the camera returns from Sudan :)
